Group core member Uchaen Chiangsaen read a statement that said: "Universities must help foster a climate of discussion and debate about the draft charter. Other public spheres - such as the mass media under the military junta - cannot have real debate, only propaganda.
"We urge the mass media, irrespective of its political stance, to open up space for debate from both sides to discuss crucial political issues."
The group will encourage votes against the charter at the August referendum.
"Though participating in the referendum may be construed as accepting the junta-designed process, it is the only chance for people who are eligible voters to express their stance in accepting or rejecting the coup and the various process set up along with the political order installed by the Council for National Security's charter," the statement said.
The group is organising symposiums and other activities to publicise its stance.
