Electronic-transaction rules inch closer

Four Royal Decrees to facilitate business and encourage electronic transactions, security on the Internet, and electronic commerce are expected to be released this year.

According to Surangkana Wayapard, a specialist at the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (Nectec), the first decree is on rules and procedures for electronic transactions in the public sector and a draft has approved by Cabinet.

The decree is aimed at setting standards for government-to-government, government-to-customer and government-to-business dealings.

The second covers electronic payment service providers, and it aims to cover electronic transactions and build confidence among users of online business.

The decree is being scrutinised by the Council of State.

Meanwhile, the third is the supervising certification authority decree, which will give businesses the authority to certify electronic transactions. It is in the process of going to Cabinet for approval.

Last is the security decree, which will create trust and security in Internet transactions. It is in the process of Cabinet approval.

She said these electronic laws are very important in this era, especially when they involve business activities.

Meanwhile, the centre is also waiting for the government's approval of the draft of the Data Protection Act, amendments to the Electronic Transactions Act, and the Computer Crime Act.
