Ratthapark earns points in Dutch Grand Prix

[MOTORCYCLING] Rather felt disappointed, teenager Ratthapark Wilairot regarded his 14th finish in the Dutch Grand Prix on Saturday as a satisfactory outcome for his tenacious effort.

Ratthapark Wilairot, No.8, finishes in the 14th place.

The 19-year-old rider was on the fifth row on the grid but a poor start saw him prop up the row in 25th place at the end of the first lap. The plucky Ratthapark, however, quickly made up ground and was eventually able to fight for a top 15 place, which came along with points.

With only five laps to go, the Thai Honda PTT SAG rider was 15th behind Karel Abrahem and managed to overtake the Czech rival a couple of laps later to add two more points to his tally.

Lying in the 14th in the 250cc standing, with 26 points from nine races, Ratthapark said: "I had a terrible start, but I remained focussed on maintaining a good pace to regain positions as soon as possible. In the last third of the race, I was closing on the top 15 and I could claim 14th and score a couple of points, I'm quite happy with this result despite the circumstances. The bike felt good and I was able to push hard in the early stages of the race."

Thai Honda PTT SAG team owner Eduardo Perales was also pleased with Ratthapark's performance as it reflected rising trend of the Chon Buri-born rider in his rookie season.

"Ratthapark scored points again - he's still learning but he manages to get good results. Today he made a great comeback after a sloppy start and that's very encouraging: he proved he was able to fight back. The fact that he is now sitting 14th in the standings with 26 points fully highlights his constant progress," said Perales.
