Kittiratt 'using Sasin politically'

A former student of Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration has circulated an email calling for tough action against Kittiratt Na Ranong, deputy director for academic affairs, for allegedly using the prestigious business school as a launch pad for his political party.
"Sasin is an institution of higher learning, not the place for people to launch political parties," Philip Cook wrote in a mail to the school's director, Dr Toemsakdi Krishnamara. "Ever since you hired Khun Kittiratt, you have seen mild cases of politicking, manoeuvring, grass-roots campaigning, which was amusing but more or less harmless. But now you see him advising people to launch political groups and so on and this is not the Sasin experience in any shape or form," Cook said. Kittiratt was head of the Stock Exchange of Thailand before moving to Sasin, a part of Chulalongkorn University. He attended a press conference on Tuesday alongside prominent political figures to announce the launch of Ruam Jai Thai as a new political party. Also present were former Bangkok governor Bhichit Rattakul, former Democrat Party secretary-general Pradit Pattaraprasit, former Mahachon Party leader Anek Laothammatas and Suwit Mesincee, a confidant of Dr Somkid Jatusripitak, who is one of the key men behind the party. A Chulalongkorn University lecturer said some of Sasin's alumni were uncomfortable with the school being used as a political platform. Several months ago, Kittiratt arranged an economic seminar at Sasin, attended by political personalities such as Anek, Somkid and Dr Chai-anan Samudvanija, who has just retired as director of Vajiravudh College.
