Boots Retail launches club to drive sales

Pharmacy, health and beauty chain Boots Retail (Thailand) is launching the new Boots Health Club, to boost sales in the second half of the year after the company failed to achieve double-digit growth in the first half.
Managing director Ian Hunter said the company's first-half sales experienced only single-digit growth, since purchasing power dropped with the slow-down in the Thai economy.Market trends indicate the company needs to launch more marketing activities in the second half of the year that focus on healthcare and personal care products. The first campaign for the second half is the Boots Health Club, which will offer discounts of 5 per cent on all healthcare products for regular members and up to 10 per cent for members aged 60 or over. Partners joining the campaign include Bangkok Hospital, Samitivej Hospital, Phyathai Hospital and Fitness First. "We believe that this campaign will drive sales in the second half of this year," Hunter said. Boots Retail will launch other marketing campaigns each month in the second half. The company also plans to open new branches, rising from 121 to 131 this year. Forty per cent of total sales now come from personal-care products, while healthcare products account for 35 per cent, cosmetics 15 per cent and accessories and snacks 10 per cent. Also, 40 per cent of total sales come from Boots brand products and 60 per cent from other brands. Somluck Srimalee The Nation
