Software firm may sue SSO for Bt1 bn

A software company said yesterday it was considering filing a civil lawsuit to demand Bt1 billion in compensation from the Social Security Office (SSO) for having a legal dispute reinterpreted - and then revoked by the Council of State.
Prayoon Larpphatthanakul, managing director of SOA Consortium, which was awarded the Bt2.8-billion project to activate a database of profiles of SSO beneficiaries, said the SSO should have had the row interpreted before opening bidding for the project, which his company won. He said his company was suffering because it had to pay more than Bt3 million a month in interest for a Bt1-billion loan to fund the database project. The company had previously filed a civil lawsuit demanding Bt500 million from the SSO following a similar contract dispute, but the case was settled out of court. Prayoon said he had learnt a request to have the Council of State reinterpret the dispute was also lodged via the Labour Ministry, by someone who wanted the contract he had won "to be revoked".
