It was really tough, says Ratthapark

[MOTORCYCLING] Young rider Ratthapark Wilairot said the slippery conditions at Donington Park on Sunday made life difficult for him but the teenager still grabbed his best result of the season, an eighth place in a rain-interrupted British Grand Prix on Sunday.

It was the first time in eight races that the Thai Honda PTT SAG rider had finished among the top 10. The result helped Ratthapark get back into the top 15 after failing to secure points in the last two GPs.

Qualifying in 17th position on the grid, he quickly gained places and was eighth by the 11th lap. The Thai kept a steady pace to secure his best result in the 250cc World Championship.

Commenting on his sterling performance, Wilairot said, "It was a very tough race, but the result was worth the effort. From the very start, I knew that I had to keep a constant pace. The race was all about not getting hot-headed and avoiding any mistakes. In the end I was able to stick with my strategy and I got my best result so far. We did a great job this weekend."

Team owner Eduardo Perales said: "Ratthapark proved his riding skills again. He finished just behind the factory riders in very tricky conditions.

"Today it would have been easy to push too hard and crash or be extremely careful and not quick enough. But our rider found just the right pace and was able to reward the team's hard work with a fine showing.

"We're pleased with the eighth position. It's a nice boost for the next races. We have to keep working like this even though we can't forget the fact that our rider is still pretty much discovering the Championship."
