German, 63, gunned down in Chon Buri

A retired German policeman was shot dead yesterday in front of his residence in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district and his former Thai wife is the prime suspect for his murder, police said.

Following a homicide report at 12.20am, police rushed to Soi Suksomboon to find the body of Heinrich Hermann Friedrich, 63. He had been shot four times - in the head, back, chest and left leg, Pol Sub-Lt Nittipumi Bootwong said.

Eyewitnesses said a gunman in his 20s riding pillion on a motorcycle shot Friedrich, while he was walking home after he went to a convenience store to buy some beer.

According to his current Thai wife of two years, 25-year-old Nantha Leukdee, Friedrich had an ongoing court battle with his first Thai wife over some property following their divorce two years ago.

Police were giving more weight to Friedrich's dispute with his former wife over the multi-million-baht property than the possible motive of him having a conflict from an affair.
