The march to Army HQ is on again

Organisers of the anti-coup rally yesterday vowed to organise a march from Sanam Luang to Army headquarters on Ratchadamnoen Avenue today.
The march will be under the banner of the Democracy Alliance Against Dictatorship and is expected to start around noon."We will definitely march to Army headquarters this time," organiser Weng Tojirakan said yesterday, alluding to the cancellation of the march last week. Weng claimed that the marchers might number in the hundreds of thousands. Key organisers said the protesters would remain peaceful and asked the police to arrest ill-intentioned elements who might try to use the situation to incite violence. Critics said the march, if it took place, might be a final grand gesture by the anti-coup protesters. They claimed that organisers were trying to find a face-saving way to wind down their rallies, which had attracted little attention in the past 10 days. Meanwhile, supporters of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra and anti-junta protesters held demonstrations in Chiang Mai and Nong Khai yesterday. About 150 people gathered outside Nong Khai's provincial hall to rally against the junta. In Chiang Mai, more than 200 Thaksin supporters staged a protest criticising the Council for National Security and the government.
