Chiang Mai police nab rape, robbery suspect

Police in Chiang Mai yesterday arrested an electrician for raping and robbing a Japanese woman in her home in April.

Hang Dong police also arrested Angkhana Jaikhajad, the wife of suspected rapist Suthas, on a charge of knowingly possessing valuables stolen from the unnamed rape victim. The crime took place late at night at the victim's home on April 22. The stolen valuables were worth Bt92,000, plus a motorcycle.

Police said Suthas had confessed to the crimes and that the 25-year-old, also wanted on previous charges of theft and robbery, had recently been released from prison on a drug-related conviction.

Angkhana confessed to illegally possessing the valuables but said she knew nothing about the robbery and the rape.
