Police asked to probe bid to bribe judges

Activist Veera Somkwamkid yesterday petitioned police to investigate the alleged attempt to bribe judges in the electoral-fraud case involving the Thai Rak Thai party.

In his petition, Veera asked police to identify the two people who had allegedly acted as brokers to bribe two judges on the Constitution Tribunal.

"I suspect the culprits are a police colonel and a senior official in the Judicial Commission," he said.

The two are law graduates from Thammasat University's class of 1966, he said, claiming that the culprits had used their school ties to approach the judges.

The class of 1966 holds many key positions in the judiciary and has gained prominence in the legal profession.

One member of the class is Somchai Wongsawat, a former permanent secretary of the Justice Ministry and brother-in-law of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
