In brief :RS waives some copyright fees

RS will next month start to collect its copyright fee from 440 restaurants and hotels nationwide, to increase protection of its intellectual property right, according to the company's senior legal and copyright official, Sutthisak Prasatkarukarn.
But copyright fees for enterprises in the deep South will be waived for the rest of the year as a special concession. Sutthisak said the company planned to increase intellectual-property awareness for its alliance business and people nationwide. The company copyright fee ranges between Bt10,000 and Bt25,000 per month. Despite targeting an income of Bt200 million from copyright fees, the company expected only Bt130 million to Bt150 million because of the economic slow-down.
VN farm money In a bid to promote the agricultural sector, the Vietnamese government is offering investment privileges to foreign investors, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) told Vietnam News Agency. Incentives are being offered in afforestation, wood-processing, animal husbandry and the building of export processing zones for rice, fruit, vegetables, coffee, rubber and tea, said Le Van Minh, director of MARD's International Cooperation Department. He said the country was working to improve its investment regulations concerning foreign-currency balance, land-use right as mortgage and land clearance, to reduce risks for foreign direct-investment (FDI) projects. By the end of last year, Vietnam had 718 FDI projects in agriculture and forestry with total registered capital of US$3.63 billion (Bt126 billion). The figure accounts for 10.6 per cent and 6.5 per cent of the country's total FDI in terms of project numbers and value, respectively.
Ad awards Leo Burnett won two Gold Awards at Cannes Lions 2007, the international advertising festival in France, which began on June 17 and ends today. The outdoor advertisement "Railcycle", was created for the Clima bicycle lock. The ad was created by Keeratie Chaimoungkalo, Sompat Trisadikun, Noranit Yasopa and Pipat Uraporn. The advertisement has received awards from local and international advertising contests, including best creative ad from Adfest and best printed ad from Adman.
Tapioca sale The Commerce Ministry has approved the sale of 190,000 tonnes of tapioca chips to seven winning bidders. Three will take 49,005 tonnes from the 2005-06 harvest and four 90,000 tonnes from the 2006-07 harvest. Offers averaged Bt4 a kilogram, close to the market price.
