Your Say

Chakky The quicker Thailand can vote for their own elected leader and start to get the country back on the right track the better.

Somchai

I vote for 'yes'. But, let's make sure of one thing. A general election would mean nothing if it is not free and fair. And as important as "free & fair", it is for the people to decide who will be their representative to run the country. The last election did not serve such purpose because it was called by Thaksin for the uneducated people to give him a stamp that he did nothing wrong in the Shin share sale to Temasek.

MM

[An election] will help ease economic constraints and distrust from foreign investors.

Nonsense

Propaganda, buying time and pressuring the people into an unknown constitution and future. People like Sonthi insult Thais by telling them they don't understand democracy, by talking about the former constitution. Now how could people understand a completely new constitution with different settings within days?

"You take the new constitution or we will have no election" is the message." I'd say tricky.

Vichit Choonhapreut

An early or late general election is immaterial. The important point is to make sure the general election is fair and clean without any undue influence.

Bj

Need more time to fully complete all the cases against Toxin & Co - and nobody will work as hard as the AEC. It makes no difference for election to be held one month earlier, but it is a crucial time for AEC. The later the election the better, due to current circumstances.

Khon Rak Thai

Yes, better to be soon as possible. Now the economy has shrunk a lot.

No!

Not until a constitution is accepted by the majority or the 1997 constitution restored. Therefore, it is not a matter of "when". It is a matter of what guidelines to follow in the coming election.

Not Disappointed

Politically, one month really doesn't make much difference. But it does make a big difference when we look at the many investigations and criminal charges still in the pipeline against Thaksin and his gang. I'd rather a later date to ensure that this Surayud gov't is in charge of the investigation and subsequent placing of further charges against Thaksin, his family, his cronies, and his sycophants.

I'm unsure whether the next "elected" gov't will have the balls to carry on with the investigations, charges to be laid against, and subsequent trials up to the jailing of this despicable, self-centred, selfish, unethical, democracy destroyer, and dishonest cheat and manipulator. And whether the next gov't will do the political expedient by pardoning all of the TRT 111 or a large number of them.
