SVOA to offer PCs via direct sales

Local computer-maker SVOA has joined with electrical-appliance-maker Singer Thailand to offer desktop computers through direct-sales channels in a bid to expand its market.
CEO Vira Intanate yesterday said Singer's nationwide direct-sales network would enable the company to penetrate deeper into the household segment, which has about 40 million potential buyers. He said information-technology penetration in Thailand was still at a low level, with only one in seven people owning a computer. In the first phase, which begins next month, both partners will jointly promote two SVOA computer models on an instalment-payment basis in Bangkok before expanding to cover the entire country next year. However, Vira declined to specify the prices of the two models or the sales target, saying only that the prices would be in the Bt15,000 range. Both partners are currently providing computer-sales training courses to Singer sales staff and enhancing their logistics to support computer marketing. Singer has 200 sales channels and a sales force of 4,000 throughout the Kingdom. "Imagine this: if each of the 4,000 Singer sales staff could sell one computer a month, that would be a huge amount," he said. Singer sales and marketing director Boonyong Tansakul said the company had more than 1 million customers nationwide, of which 90 per cent were upcountry.
