'End hunt for Reinado '

East Timor's President Jose Ramos-Horta has met with a follower of fugitive rebel leader Major Alfredo Reinado and wants a manhunt for him called off, he said in remarks broadcast yesterday.
The manhunt was launched by the government and Australian-led peacekeepers in February after Reinado and his men attacked several border police outposts and fled with many weapons.Ramos-Horta told Radio Timor Leste that he and Attorney-General Longuinhos Monteiro met with a subordinate of Reinado's, identified as Susar, in Manufahi district south of Dili on Saturday. "I do not want to see any Timorese being afraid, hiding and running in the forest, being hunted by international troops like animals," the president said. "If there's a problem, I will come to the mountains, forests and valleys for dialogue and find a solution." He said he would meet with caretaker PM Estanislau Da Silva, UN mission chief Atul Khare, peacekeepers and UN police to find a way to halt the operations. - AFP.
