Danai falls to guiles of Czech

[TENNIS] Danai Udomchoke's Wimbledon preparation was spoiled by Czech Lukas Dlouhy who handed the Thai a disappointing first-round defeat in the Ordina Open in 's-Hertogen-bosch yesterday.
In a match postponed from Monday due to rain, Danai took the first set 6-4 but flopped in the next two sets to go down to his 112th-ranked opponent 4-6 6-3 6-4 in his final tune-up event before next week's Grand Slam event. Danai, who went up a break at 2-1 and 15-0 when rain disrupted the match, hung on to his lead to close out the first set in just 38 minutes. But accuracy deserted Danai's game in the second set, where he made a string of errors to concede the second game. The single break cost the Thai the set in which he committed four double faults. Another loose game at the start of the decider took its toll on Danai. Though he had a few chances to break back, Danai could not capitalise on those opportunities and finally walked away with his head down after one hour and 38 minutes of play. Meanwhile, fifth-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain was knocked out in the first round, losing 6-2 3-6 2-6 to Carlos Berlocq of Argentina. Guillermo Canas beat Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 7-6 (5) 7-5. There were no breaks of serve in the first set, but the third-seeded Argentine converted one of six breakpoints in the second to seal the match. In the women's draw, fourth-seeded Dinara Safina struggled before beating French qualifier Camille Pin 6-3 5-7 6-3. The match was suspended on Monday due to rain at 2-2 in the second set. Also, fifth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova beat Olga Poutchkova 6-2 6-1.
