'Signature drive still on'

Former MPs of the defunct Thai Rak Thai Party vowed yesterday to continue their campaign to collect signatures pleading for a royal amnesty for executives banned from politics for five years, despite efforts by the military to block the bid.
The signature campaign aims to petition His Majesty the King for amnesty for 111 executives who were stripped of their electoral rights for five years. Surapong Towijakchaikul and other former MPs in the North launched the signature campaign on Sunday at the Statue of Three Ancient Kings in Chiang Mai. But the military took down their tent where the campaign was based. But Surapong said yesterday people had a right to seek help from the King. He said his group has discussed another plan. "We agreed to continue a signature campaign at our former MPs' head offices in Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces. We expect to get signatures from a million [people] in two weeks."
