THAKSIN PROBE
AEC asks for data on TOT-Shin dealings

Interest centres on concession granted to AIS

An Assets Examination Committee (AEC) sub-panel has asked TOT to submit all Shin Corp concession details and related TOT board resolutions.

The request is part of the ongoing probe into alleged malfeasance by deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The subcommittee has requested all board resolutions, opinions and orders concerning all amendments to TOT's concession contract with Advanced Info Service (AIS).

In addition, material from legal consultants employed by AIS has been requested by the panel.

AIS is the cellular-telephone flagship of Shin, founded by the family of the ousted prime minister. TOT awarded AIS a concession in 1990.

The subcommittee wants to know details of TOT appointments to the AIS board or of consultants.

In addition, the request seeks details of agreements signed between Shin Satellite (ShinSat) and TOT, plus resolutions, meeting minutes and the opinions of TOT boards, subcommittees and consultants and Shin Satellite's legal consultants.

ShinSat holds a concession from the Information and Communications Technology Ministry.

The subcommittee wants details of agreements between TOT and telephone-directory publisher Teleinfomedia, in which Shin and TOT hold shares.

It has requested specifics of TOT investment in the Thailand-Finland Global Technology Fund, an information-technology venture-capital financier.

The subcommittee will probe TOT opinions of its processes and actions regarding their appropriateness, whether they resulted in financial damage and if so, the value of that damage.

The subcommittee request was dated June 8, and the deadline yesterday. However, the letter reached TOT only yesterday.

TOT director Djitt Laowattana yesterday said the company would request more time to comply.
