Court to rule on Kowit

The Central Administrative Court will hold a hearing today to decide whether to issue a temporary injunction against an order transferring Kowit Watana from his post as national police chief.

Kowit yesterday lodged a complaint with the court to seek nullification of the executive order, issued on April 22 and signed by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, that appointed him as chief adviser on internal security.

Lawyer Narin Wongthai and Pol Lt-Colonel Ankgoon Watthanarung will testify before the court on why they consider the order unlawful.

Kowit has said publicly that the order appointing him to a civilian post was unlawful as he had not agreed to it, which is required under Royal Thai Police regulations.
