PTV asks monk group to join anti-coup protest at Sanam Luang

A monk group protesting in front of the parliament admitted that People's Television (PTV) asked them to join anti-coup rally at Sanam Luang this weekend.

A spokesman for the group, called "March of Dharma," protesting against the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) outside Parliament admitted that the group had been asked by PTV to join an anti-coup rally at Sanam Luang on Saturday.

The group is also demanding the recognition of  Buddhism as the state religion.

Phra Vijit Yansopano said PTV, which held a rally at Sanam Luang recently, had asked the Buddhist monks to join them.

"They [PTV] told us that if we joined the anticoup rally to oust the Council for National Security and cancel the draft charter, they would give us whatever support we wanted," said Phra Vijit.

However, the monks' group declined the invitation to join the anticoup rally saying that they didn't want to become political tools.
