OKI to expand production in Thailand

Oki Electric Industry has announced plans to expand production at its Thai plant, to make more parts for liquid-crystal-display (LCD) panels called driver large-scale integration (LSI) chips.
The move responds to rapidly expanding demand for full high-definition LCD television screens.Oki will expand its production of driver LSI chips from 10 million a month to 15 million, the company said in a statement issued by its Tokyo headquarters."Oki (Thailand) has installed new equipment to enhance its LSI production line and has increased its production capacity by 50 per cent," said Takaki Yamada, president of Oki Electric Industry's Silicon Microdevice. "Oki will continue to provide driver LSI chips to customers around the world by effectively using production supply-chain management. This will apply to Oki (Thailand), where assembly and testing are done, as well as to plants in Korea, Taiwan and Japan." During this fiscal year, the Japanese company plans to expand the capabilities of Oki (Thailand) to develop the company's latest technologies, such as superfine pitch products. This will enable the coherent development and manufacture of driver LSI products by Oki (Thailand), allowing Oki to start up volume production quickly. Oki (Thailand) was formed in 1991 as a unit for assembling and testing the Japanese company's semiconductor products. - The Nation
