Health meeting for 2008

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Bank will join the Thai government in hosting the Prince Mahidol Award Inter-national Conference next year.

The academic conference will run from next January 30 to February 2.

Dr Suwit Wibulpolprasert, secretary of the Conference Organising Committee, yesterday revealed that the key topic would be the development of primary healthcare, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the WHO and the 30th anniversary of the Alma Ata Declaration on primary healthcare.

Top executives of both the WHO and the World Bank will deliver addresses on primary healthcare, Suwit said.

The government has already approved a Bt70-million budget.

The WHO, the World Bank, the Rockefeller Foun-dation and the government will provide funding for five selected Asian and African countries to study their own primary healthcare in regard to Aids, mother and child hygiene, control of non-infective diseases and health monitoring.
