Tip-amorn lifts bronze

[WEIGHTLIFTING] Tip-amorn Phupruem handed Thailand its first three bronze medals in the women's 48kg division on the first day of the 33rd Men's and 13th Women's Junior World Championships in Prague on Sunday.

Tip-amorn won the bronze medals by snatching 75kg and lifting 96kg in the jerk for a total lift of 171 kg.

The gold medal in the snatch was won by Italian Caterina Genny Pagliaro with a lift of 83kg, while Turk Sibel Ozkan took the clean and jerk event after lifting 102kg.

In the Olympic total event, both Italian Pagliaro and Turk Ozkan tied at 181kg, but the Turk lifter finally claimed the gold on lighter body weight.

Thai gold-medal hopefuls Suda Chaleephay, who grabbed two gold and one silver medals at this stage last year when China hosted the event, and Amnuayporn Maneewan were to compete in the women's 53 kg category later yesterday.
