Highlights of the week :CDA to review constitution draft

The Constitution Drafting Assembly will today begin reviewing the 299 articles of the draft constitution for approval or amendment. This process could take up to a week.
Among the controversial issues is the composition of the upper and lower houses of Parliament and how the seats will be filled, and whether the charter should have a clause that makes Buddhism the state religion. Supporters of a state religion plan to rally in front of Parliament today to press their demand.
EC review of poll-fraud charges
The Election Commission (EC) is to discuss whether executives of parties dissolved by the Constitution Tribunal committed criminal or electoral offences. Among the nine people alleged to have been involved in electoral fraud are former Thai Rak Thai executives Thamarak Isarangura and Pongsak Ruktapongpisal, whom the tribunal found guilty on May 30 of hiring small parties to run in the April 2, 2006, election. EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond said last week that an ad-hoc panel would take a week to review a report accusing nine people linked to the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party of involvement in fraud in last year's general election.
Politicians to discuss future The 111 former executives of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai party will meet today at the party's former headquarters on Phetchaburi Road to discuss their political future. The executives' voting rights were revoked following the dissolution of their party for electoral fraud. Meanwhile, Democrat Party executives and former MPs will meet tomorrow to discuss the country's political direction and plan the party's work. Former Chat Thai MPs will also meet tomorrow to discuss the party's plans and strategies.
