Seven months of action

Like other ministries of the Surayud government, the Energy Ministry has been criticised for being less than energetic.

Yet people at the ministry insist major achievements will be seen in the coming months. Here are some of its actions, either carried out or in the pipeline.

lCoordination with the Industry Ministry to ensure lower toxic emissions from petroleum and power plants

lReplacement of incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving bulbs

lPromoting NGV in passenger cars and public-transport vehicles

lOpening bids for IPP and the levy of an "energy tax"

lPaving ways for nuclear-power development

lA draft act on energy business which will deprive PTT of some of its original privileges

lThe flotation of the LPG price
