Former TRT MPs meet to show unity

Some 150 former MPs from the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party on Friday held a meeting to demonstrate their political relevancy and vowed to carry on their activities under a new party.

The former MPs also distanced themselves from a Thai Rak Thai splinter group by refusing to attend a dinner party organised by Machima Group leader Somsak Thepsuthin.

"Thai Rak Thai MPs remain loyal to their party and will fight the junta," former MP Wichai Chaijitwanitchakul said.

Wichai said his party's constituents, particularly those in the Northeast, became even stronger supporters of the Thai Rak Thai banner after the junta decided to remove party executives from the electoral process.

Thai Rak Thai leaders attended the meeting in full force, including Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, Jamlong Krudkhuntode and Yaowapha Wongsawat, who is a younger sister of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Sudarat vowed to look after the former MPs even though she could not remain at the political forefront.
