Jail for slurs on tribunal

The Constitution Tribunal would not tolerate "non-academic" criticism over its rulings in the cases of the Thai Rak Thai and Democrat parties, its secretary-general Paiboon Warahapaitoon said yesterday.

He warned those insulting the judges would be jailed for up to seven years.

Comments based on academic purposes are welcome not only for the tribunal's cases but also other courts, he said. However, if the criticism were a type of allegation or used abusive words, those responsible would be regarded as damaging national stability because the tribunal judges are state officials, Paiboon said.

Police are collecting evidence related to those insulting the tribunal, he added. - THE NATION
