Van Basten set to field his best team

[SOCCER] Marco van Basten, who is aiming to end the Dutch Asia Tour with a perfect record, promised to field the best possible team against Thailand in a friendly match at Rajamangala National Stadium today.
"I'll put on the best 11. We'll take the game seriously because we don't have a chance to play against a national team this time as our Euro 2008 qualifying campaign will resume in September," said the legendary striker, whose side defeated South Korea 2-0 on Saturday. "We'll take it as seriously as we played South Korea. We hope to play a good quality game even though it's very hot here." Hamburg playmaker midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, who scored a brace against the Koreans, is relishing the chance to captain his team for the first time today. "I feel honoured to be the captain. I hope to win and score just as in the Korea game," said Van Der Vaart. Meanwhile, Thailand are hoping their first taste of the "Oranje" will be sweet. The Kingdom has been in fine fettle in preparing for the upcoming Asian Cup, having upstaged the Chinese juggernaut to record their first victory in 17 years over the mainland in their previous warm-up match last month. Coach Chanvit Pholchivin's men now are plotting to claim another scalp in the form of the Netherlands who have many big names including Liverpool hitman Dirk Kuyt and Ajax influential midfielder Wesley Sneijder, which could provide a massive boost to their Asian Cup aspirations. Chanvit, however, knows that his side has their work cut out if they are to spring what could be the biggest surprise in the history of Thai football against the Dutch giants. In anticipation of what his men will face in the challenging meeting with such illustrious opponents, the experienced Chanvit utilised yesterday's training sessions by preparing for a pressure game from the Dutch. "We're inferior to them in every aspect. Technically and tactically, we're clearly in a different league, not to mention the physical disadvantage. They are a world-class team. The only advantage we have is that we are playing at home," said Chanvit. "However, the opportunity to play top-class rivals is invaluable experience for my team before the continental tournament. I've told the players to be disciplined in defence. Against such strong opponents, we cannot afford to make even a tiny mistake. Everyone must know one's responsibility. Most importantly, we must not feel overawed," said Chanvit. Chanvit was forced to make a couple of changes, with two first choice players Sutee Suksomkit and Terdsak Jaiman unavailable for the match due to club commitments, otherwise his line-up will be the same that beat China 1-0. Meanwhile, the 2008 Olympic qualifier between Thailand and India will precede the friendly match, which will kick off at 7pm. The organisers haveasked spectators to wear yellow shirts as the game is part of His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary celebrations.
