Highlights of the week :Thai Rak Thai group to petition

Leaders of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party, led by Pongthep Thepkanchana, will today submit an open letter to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont urging the government to lift announcements No 15 and 27 of the Council for Democratic Reform.
The premier's secretary is scheduled to accept the petition. Meanwhile, members of the Thai Rak Thai Group will submit a petition with the Election Commission, asking that the name "Thai Rak Thai" be reserved for them for future registration of a new political party.
Charter drafters tackle hard points The Constitution Drafting Committee will today seek to solve several controversial issues, including how to elect members of Parliament and whether the Senate should be appointed, elected, or partially appointed and partially elected. Political tension may turn nasty Political tension is expected to rise this week after the satellite broadcaster People's Television (PTV) vows to hold a rally every day to oust the Council for National Security. The demonstrations are expected to become more aggressive because key members of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai party have agreed to join with the PTV organisers. The Thai Rak Thai politicians have been banned from politics for five years as a result of the historic Constitution Tribunal ruling last Wednesday.
