Grandpa Yen robbed

Yen Kaewmanee yesterday lamented to senior officials that Bt70,000 cash given to him by kind-hearted people had been stolen recently, prompting him to deposit the rest of his cash in a bank for fear of another theft.
Grandfather Yen, who believes he is 107 years old, has been living in a run-down houseboat for decades. Channel 9's Khon Kon Khon programme presented his life story recently, leading to Her Majesty the Queen to grant him a newer houseboat and Phetchaburi to use him as the province's tourism presenter this year. Deputy Interior Minister Banyat Jansena, Phetchaburi Governor Sayumporn Limthai and Democrat deputy leader Alongkorn Pollabutr yesterday afternoon went to visit Yen at his houseboat in Muang Phetchaburi. Grandpa Yen told them that he recently stopped by Lamyai Pier for a meal and later found someone had ransacked his home and taken Bt70,000 cash he had stashed. However, he did not file a police complaint about the stolen money. Grandpa Yen then went to a bank to deposit the remainder of the donation money he had, about Bt100,000, and now parks his houseboat at a safer spot every night for fear of another theft while he is sleeping.
