Tough encounter for Thailand

[BADMINTON] Thailand will face title holders China in a daunting opener at the Sudirman World Mixed Team Badminton Championships, which take place from June 11-17 in Glasgow, Scotland.
A total of 49 nations have been divided into seven groups. The first five groups consist of eight countries, while the sixth and seventh comprise five and four nations respectively. Thailand are ranked sixth in Group A, which also consists of China, Denmark, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, England and Hong Kong. Players in each category will initially be competing in a group round-robin format. Boonsak Ponsana and Poompat Sapkulcholnanart will participate in the men's singles for Thailand. Phattapon Ngernsrisuk, Songpon Anukrittayawan, Tessana Panwisawas, Sudket Prapakamol and Natthapon Nakthong will compete in the men's doubles. The Thai team, which is guided by team manager Sompol Kukasemkij, also has Salakjit Ponsana, Monthila Meemek and Soratja Chansrisukot in the women's singles. The women's pair is Kunchala Voravichitchaikul and Duang-anong Aroonkesorn, while Saralee Thungthongkam and Sudket will be playing in the mixed doubles. Meanwhile, China have already announced their 17-member squad spearheaded by world No 1 Lin Dan and No 2 Chen Jin. Men's doubles world No 1s Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng and the duo of Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen - top-ranked in the mixed doubles - have been included in an impressive list. After the tough match against the reigning champions, the Thai team next take on players from Malaysia and then England.
