DHL Express offers online import service for SMEs

DHL Express International (Thailand), an international express and logistics services provider, yesterday launched DHL Import Express Online mainly for SMEs.

"The online system will make it more convenient for DHL customers to import their merchandise, after being provided with a manual service for over a decade. Now they will be more attracted to use more of our services," Herbert Vongpusanachai, managing director and regional manager, said.

The new service was expected to boost DHL's sales this year by 20-25 per cent.

Internet users in Thailand are expected to increase to 10 million next year from 8 million forecast for this year, which is a large enough population to introduce the online service, Herbert said.

Customers who open an account with the company, including shippers or suppliers, can create and execute purchase orders through the new electronic system.

Last year, DHL Express carried 3.4 million shipments weighing 17.2 million kilograms for its 30,000 customers in all 76 provinces.

The company runs 400 flights a week and has 150 vehicles in its ground fleet.

DHL is ready to increase its own flights if shipments grow, Herbert said. Suvarnabhumi Airport is its hub for Indochina and Southeast Asia.

Juthatip Tiyawatchrapong, assistant to the president of LA Bicycle (Thailand) Co, said DHL Express Import Online facilitated its bicycle manufacturing and exporting business, which required contact with customers and suppliers overseas.

LA Bicycle could now issue purchase orders and control shipments on the computer instead of using the telephone, like it used to, he said.
