SFIs get a breather as deadline put off

The Cabinet yesterday extended the deadline until 2009 for eight specialised financial institutions (SFIs) to comply with International Accounting Standard 39.
If the eight agencies had to conform by this fiscal year ending September, as originally scheduled, they would have had to reduce their remittances to the treasury by Bt2.47 billion this fiscal year and Bt636 million next fiscal year, Choedchai Suwanaporn, assistant government spokesman, said yesterday. The Finance Ministry would also have to inject fresh capital into some financial institutions and that would cut into employee bonuses at the Government Savings Bank, Government Housing Bank and Bank for Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, he said. The other five SFIs are the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bank of Thailand, Export-Import Bank of Thailand, Islamic Bank of Thailand, Secondary Mortgage Corp and Small Business Credit Guarantee Corp.
