Petition filed against Surayud
An anti-coup group yesterday filed a petition to impeach Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont for failure to dismiss junta chief General Sonthi Boonyaratglin. The 2006 White Dove Group demanded Sonthi's dismissal on grounds that he allegedly had duplicate marriage certificates for his two wives. "Surayud has failed to take action even though the group brought the issue to his attention twice, on January 3 and May 15," group member Noparuj Worachitwuthikul said. He threatened to call a mass rally if the National Counter Corruption Commission failed to respond to his group's petition within seven days. PTV protest Ramkhamhaeng union disputes rally call Ramkhamhaeng University's Student's Union has distanced itself from a PTV rally scheduled for tomorrow to coincide with the verdicts on the two electoral fraud cases. "PTV organiser Jatuporn Phromphan claims to have mobilised up to 1,000 Ramkhamhaeng students to join his planned protest. This is impossible, as he has no more than 200 students loyal to him," student union chairman Sikkhanan Nulek said yesterday. Sikkhanan said the majority of the student population had "lost trust" in Jatuporn after realising he was using his status as a university alumnus to advance his political agenda. Jatuporn is seen as close to ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
