Grocer's pickup rigged with C-4 bomb

A rescue team in Nakhon Pathom yesterday defused a C-4 explosive found tied under the pickup of a greengrocer.
Owner of the pickup, 35-year-old Sompong Ditchaem, reported to police that he had noticed suspicious material tied under his pickup when he returned to it after buying vegetables. Sompong said he had driven the pickup from home around 4am with his wife and 10-year-old son to buy vegetables in Nakhon Pathom to sell in Bangkok. The team was called to investigate the suspicious material. Authorities moved people 100 metres away from the scene before the team defused the explosive. Team-leader Pol Senior Sgt-Major Pramoj Phumpipat said the material was a C-4 explosive weighing about 225 grams attached to a mobile phone and primed to explode. Sompong said he suspected neighbours of his, a group of young men with whom he had had a falling-out.
