NMG's biggest shareholder to sell

Somporn Juangroongruangkit, Nation Multimedia Group's (NMG) biggest shareholder, is set to sell her whole stake.

Somporn, who holds about 16 per cent according to the Stock Exchange of Thailand's website, said yesterday: "I am the biggest shareholder, but I have no say in the management because people say I am linked with politicians."

Somporn is the sister-in-law of Suriya Jungrungreangkit, industry minister in the government of deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Asked what price she wanted, Somporn said cost plus a bit of interest. She bought NMG shares at Bt14 a couple of years ago.

"If I can get Bt15 a share, I'll be happy," she said.

The stock closed at Bt9.25 yesterday.

Somporn said she had bought the shares without any political motive and yet was bypassed in management decision-making because of concern over political intervention.
