A former border policeman who allegedly killed a Novotel Bang Na colleague for the Bt400,000 cash she was carrying was forced to re-enact the crime at Bang Na police station yesterday.
Meanwhile, the murder victim's relatives were unhappy with a police decision not to bring the suspect to the scene where the victim's body was found. Following the arrest of the suspect, Phakhinai Janwiman, 47, at a plantation in Chon Buri's Bor Thong district on Wednesday night, police yesterday staged the re-enactment at the police station's parking lot. In the 30-minute re-enactment Phakhinai identified the car in which he drove his colleague, accountant Sukanda Mekloy, to an isolated location on March 27. Phakhinai is then alleged to have strangled her with the car's seatbelt and hit her head on the dashboard and windscreen before taking the cash. Sukanda was carrying the money to deposit it in the hotel's bank account. Phakhinai also re-enacted how he allegedly dragged Sukanda's body out of the car and dumped it into a roadside ditch. Police have quoted Phakhinai as confessing that he killed Sukanda and stole the money to pay off his gambling and credit-card debts. Phakhinai has been charged with murder, robbery and concealing a dead body. Sukanda's father, Ratchada Mekloy, said he was satisfied with the arrest but felt the police should have brought Phakhinai to the actual crime scene for the re-enactment because he had made a promise that he would have his late daughter's killer apologise to her at the scene.
