Win Win wins Wi-Fi licence

Win Win Net Corp plans to spend Bt12 billion on rolling out high-speed Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) Internet networks across the country.
Chairman Sitichai Nuanmanee yesterday said the company's trading subsidiary in China, Guangzhou Yue Xiu Economic Development, would fund the project.Bt12 billion has been earmarked to develop the project over the next two years. Under a 10-year-investment plan, Win Win Net will roll out 30,000 Wi-Fi networks across the country, of which 2,000 will be up and running this year. It targets 1.5 million Wi-Fi subscribers within the next three years, which would enable it to break even, Sitichai said. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) yesterday awarded a 15-year licence to Win Win Net to develop the project. The company will team up with local Internet service providers to provide the Wi-Fi service. Sitichai reportedly co-founded Master Call, which provided an international call-back service many years ago in Thailand. However, he said yesterday that Master Call had never run a call-back service anywhere, but had won a cellular licence in China. The company was sold a long time ago. Sitichai said he owned 80 per cent of Win Win Net, which has registered capital of Bt840 million. He claimed the company would boost its capital to Bt3 billion by October.
