The test found that it ran applications quite fast without problems, and it comes with all the necessary applications for Microsoft Office users on the go.

The D810 is a new PDA phone from Dopod, which features several types of fast wireless connectivity and the global positioning system in a sleek and light body.

The Dopod D810 has 3G or UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) and 3.5G or HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) connections apart from the fast EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) connection. It is a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM phone. So far, only EDGE is available in Thailand but the test found that it was already fast.

The D810 also comes with a 802.11g Wi-Fi connection feature for connecting to a wireless network or hotspot.

The Dopod D810 is powered by a Samsung SC 2442 running at 400 MHz and runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0. It is packed with 128 megabytes of ROM and 64 megabytes of RAM and its storage can be expanded with a mini SD card to up to two gigabytes.

The test found that it ran applications quite fast without problems, and it comes with all the necessary applications for Microsoft Office users on the go.

The D810 uses Qualcomm MSM6275 as its GPS chip, which worked well during the test when we used PowerMap G10 for GPS applications. We could see a dot representing ourselves moving on a detailed map of Bangkok streets with considerable accuracy.

Measured at 108 x 58.2 x 18.4mm, the D810 is quite compact and weighs only 150 grams.

Apart from using a stylus pen to navigate through icons of applications, users can use the scrolling wheel provided to move between applications. The wheel can also be pushed on to activate the selected application.

Dopod D810 comes in two colours for its plastic cases - polished black or immaculate white. Fingerprints are easily seen on the black plastic and the black colour also peeled off from the metal section on the side and bottom of the test unit. It may be wiser to go for the white model as the metal part is left unpainted in its original metal colour.

The D810 comes with a 1,500-mAh battery, which can last about three to five hours during talk. The Dopod D810 has a suggested retail price of Bt31,900.
