Iranians charged over crack deals

Two Iranian men were arrested in Bangkok over the weekend for possession with intent to sell Bt1.2 million worth of the drug crack.

Police said Dadgostar Patris Jamshid, 38, and Davood Mohammadi, 26, admitted selling the drug in areas frequented by Arab tourists for between Bt2,500 and Bt3,000 a gram.

"We will investigate further to make sure this drug does not gain popularity in Thailand," Metropolitan Police superintendent Colonel Sombat Milinjinda said. He said the men told police the drug was popular among Arabs and started entering Thailand about a year ago.

Metropolitan Police commander Maj-General Apichart Chua-tes said local customers made up just 10 per cent of the men's sales.
