Carry-on fluid rule cleared

As of June 1, domestic and international passengers at all five of the Airports of Thailand's international airports plus Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport will need to follow international requirements for carry-on liquids.
Chaisak Angkasuwan, director-general of the Civil Aviation Department, said yesterday that all liquids in carry-on baggage - including gels, sprays, water, creams, lotions, perfume, bath gel, foams and toothpaste - must be in 100-millilitre containers. Larger containers will not be allowed.Liquid containers must be packed in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag with a limit of one litre per bag. Each passenger can carry only one transparent plastic bag and it must be shown to staff at screening checkpoints. Milk, liquid food for babies and prescribed medicines are exempted from the 100ml limit but must still pass through screening. The rules were proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation on March 1 to increase cabin safety. They have been imposed in most US and European airports. Singapore adopted the procedures this month, but several airports in Asia have yet to enforce them. A source at King Power International Group, operator of duty-free shops at Suvarnabhumi Airport, said the measure would hit the retail business and spending on liquid products would likely drop. "We want to see what the effect will be before searching for ways to help the company," the source added.
