Cool Potent repeats his Sydney act

[SHOOTING] Warren Potent of Australia claimed back-to-back World Cup gold medals as he won the men's 50m rifle prone in the ISSF World Cup Bangkok yesterday.
The 45-year-old sharpshooter showed no sign of annoyance despite pouring rain in the range and stuck to his lead from start to finish, firing 598 points in the preliminary and 104.3 in the final for a total of 702.3 Potent has been dominating the category for the past two weeks. In Sydney last week, he scored 701.2 points for his maiden World Cup victory. "I have good mental technique and it helped. It's great to win for two straight weeks,'' Potent said. "It was a bit tougher than usual to shoot in the rain but it was okay for me. There was no wind and the condition was good,'' said Potent, who entered the final with the highest score of 598. South Korea's Lee Hyun-tae fired 700.8 to settle for the silver. American rifle specialist Matthew Emmons took the bronze after shooting a total of 700. Thai rifle star Tavarit Majchacheep was down in the dumps, shooting 587 for 49th place. In the men's 50m pistol, Ukraine's Oleg Omelchuk edged past Armenia's Norayr Bakhtamyan to bag the gold medal with 662.1 against the latter's 661.9.
