Insider trading: SEC to look at foreign laws

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will study other nations' insider-trading laws and revise Thailand's version accordingly, following criticism over the ineffectiveness of Thai law in punishing Yingluck Shinawatra over her alleged misuse of inside information.
SEC deputy secretary-general Prasong Vinaiphat said, "The case concerns the public interest, but for once we need to be careful. Amending the law may not be the best solution. If it were amended and then still ineffective, we'd need to revise it again and again. The best way is to prevent such a case from reoccurring." Yingluck sold her shares in Advanced Info Service before Temasek Holdings announced its takeover of Shin Corp and later announced its tender-offer price for AIS shares. Yingluck sold her shares at a higher price than the tender offer. Retail outlets: PTT to take over Jet and Jiffy PTT will assume the operation of Jet petrol stations and Jiffy convenience stores at the end of next month, after the purchase agreement is officially completed on June 28. PTT senior executive vice president Chaivat Churitti said PTT was prepared to conduct a client survey to maintain customer satisfaction after the takeover. Beauty: Cute Press launches skin-whitener SSUP Bangkok 1991, distributor of Cute Press beauty products, is confident that its sales target of Bt1.2 billion will be met this year despite the economic slow-down. With consumers switching to quality but reasonably priced products, Cute Press will have an advantage, said brand manager Voraphannee Chaipromprasith. Yesterday, Cute Press launched Evory whitening foundation power, expecting to reap revenues of Bt80 million this year with a marketing budget of more than Bt30 million.
