Court accepts Kowit petition

The Central Administrative Court yesterday accepted a petition from former national police chief Kowit Watana to reverse his "forced" transfer to a civilian post.

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont on April 22 appointed Kowit as a C-11 official attached to the PM's Office, where he was assigned to be the chief adviser on internal security.

But Kowit said the order was made without his consent, as required by the law governing police. He claimed Surayud deliberately omitted any reference to that law, because the premier wanted to get him out of the police force so Seripisut Temiyavej could replace him.

Kowit also asked the court to issue an injunction against both the transfer order and the confirmation of Seripisut as police chief. The court set 10am tomorrow to hear Kowit's injunction request.
