FM clarifies Thai govt's decision over Compulsory Licensing

Foreign Ministry clarified on Thursday the government's use of compulsory licensing on three life-saving drugs; Efavirenz, Kaletra, and Plavix, saying the move is allowed under World Trade Organisation.

The ministry said there were misunderstandings reported in the foreign media and certain NGOs have made wrong accusations regarding Thai Public Health's decision to use CL.

The ministry said on its website that the government recognized the importance of balancing between the protection of innovation and the access to medicine to protect public health.

This is the first time that the ministry stepped in to join the defence over the decision to use CL.
