PTT gives details of merger plan

PTT will merge Aromatics (Thailand) and Rayong Refinery into a new entity, which will be owned 49 per cent by PTT.
PTT president Prasert Bunsumpun said yesterday that the move would harness synergies between the two companies and help cut production costs by US$100 million (Bt3.5 billion) to $200 million ann-ually. At present, PTT owns 49.84 per cent of Aromatics and 48.75 per cent of Rayong Refinery. Prasert expects the merger process to be completed in about six months after shareholders of the two units give their approval. - Dow Jones Newswires.
Gulf Power starts up new generator Gulf Power Generation's Kaeng Khoi 2 gas combined-cycle generating plant has started up the first generator and has scheduled to commence operation of the second generator next March. Each generator has the capacity of 734 megawatts. Relying on natural gas, the power plant is expected to reduce fuel oil usage and reduce the pressure on electricity rates. In case of a gas shortage, it could switch to diesel. The power plant required a construction budget of Bt36 billion. Following strong protests in Prachuap Khiri Khan, it was relocated to Kaeng Khoi and switched from coal to natural gas and diesel. - The Nation.
