STREET WISE
Conserve energy: show your knees

Ultra-conservative former senator Rabiabrat Pongpanich may have to think twice before she steps into the offices of Krungthai Card (KTC).

KTC recently launched a campaign to promote saving energy by premiering a new uniform collection that is miles away from the traditional dull banker's uniform.

KTC staff can now blend perfectly into the crowd in trendy gathering spots like Siam Square.

The traditional bank uniform is a stodgy look of long skirt, neat blouse, jacket and flowery scarf.

But KTC staff will shortly be spotted in hip-hugger shorts, sleeveless mini-dresses and T-shirts in bright colours.

According to a press release - which is not quite convincing - KTC said it launched the new uniform with the theme "I Am Summer" in support of the government's campaign to save energy.

But the uniform will do more than save energy, as the design is trendy and sexy, what with those below-the-waistline shorts and mini-dresses with high hemlines. Such a generous display of legs can only raise temperatures.

No need to adjust the office's temperature to 20 degrees Celsius just to make the staff swaddled in Western-style jackets feel comfortable. Now, KTC staff flaunt new uniforms that perfectly fit the summer mood.

And if they feel stressed after work, they can just hit the disco dance floor without bothering to change their outfits.

The uniform is also bound to attract young customers who feel more comfortable dealing with a casual-look staff.

But I'm not sure how the more conservative customers will take it. Dear Khun Rabiabrat: do you have any objections?
