Thai pair lose match

[BADMINTON] Thailand's Sudket Prapakamol and Songpon Anukrittayawan crashed in the qualifying round of the Indonesia Open Super Series in Jakarta yesterday.

The Thai men's duo fell to Chinese Guo Zhengdong and Xie Zhongbo 21-12 21-15 in the second qualifying match.

Earlier, the Thai pair beat Bona Septano and Ahsan Mohamad of Indonesia 21-19 21-17. Boonsak Ponsana, who recently won the men's singles crown at the Singapore Open, will feature in the men's singles first round.

The Thai world No 11 is likely to have a comfortable opener against a qualifier today but a tough task awaits him in the second round, where he will probably meet defending champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia.

Also standing in his way is Chinese rival, Chen Yu, whom the Thai beat to capture the Singapore Open title.

In the mixed doubles, his compatriots Sudket and Saralee Thungthongkam open their campaign against French pair Elodie Eymard and Svetoslav Stoyanov.

Songpon Anukrittayawan and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul meet Mette Schjoldager and Lars Paaske of Denmark.
