On the keyboard

Award-winning pianist Jirisupa Varikarn will perform in a piano recital today to mark Siam Kolkarn Kitarin Music School's 18th anniversary.

The concert will start at 8pm at the recital hall on the fourth floor of the Siam Kolkarn Building on Rama 1 Road in Bangkok. The programme includes Bach, Chopin and Beethoven.

Jirisupa started studying the piano at the age of four at the school. In 2002, she won the first prize in the Yamaha Thailand Music Festival in the advanced piano category. She then continued her music studies abroad at Idyllwild Arts Academy in the United States as a scholarship recipient from 2003 to 2006. In 2005, she was presented with the Kenneth Jackson Scholarship Award by the Steinway Society of Riverside County. Currently, Jirisupa is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance as a Howard Hanson's Scholarship recipient under the tutelage of Professor Rebecca Penneys at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester.

The event will also feature rising young musicians from the school. They are all finalists in the Yamaha Thailand Music Festival 2007.
