Saralee is back on the court

[BADMINTON] After a three-month break from the game, Saralee Thungthongkam will return to the court in the US$200,000 Singapore Open Super Series, which gets underway today.
Saralee, who was out of action after picking up a back injury during a training session, and her partner Sudket Prapakamol open their campaign in the mixed doubles against Russians Nina Vislova and Alexandr Nikolaenko in the first round tomorrow. Should the Thai world No 3 duo get past their opponents, they are likely to face South Koreans Lee Hyo-jung and Lee Jae-jin, with whom the Thais have a 2-2 head-to-head record. Saralee also teams up with Sathinee Chankrajangwong in the women's doubles, where a possible win over qualifiers will earn them a second round tie with Taiwanese world No 4 Chien Yu-chin and Cheng Wen-hsing. Apart from Saralee and Sudket, the Thai team has four other players in the event. The Thai mixed duo of Kunchala Voravichitchaikul and Songpon Anukritayawan take on Filipinos Kennie and Kennevic Asuncion in the first round. In the women's doubles first round, Kunchala and Duang-anong Arunkesorn are likely to have an easy match against Indians Rani Mundiasti and Endang Nursugianti. In the men's singles, if Boonsak Ponsana, who is ranked 11th in the world, beats a qualifier, he will meet Chinese world No 5 Lee Chong-wei, whom the Thai has never beaten, in the second round. Today only the pairing of Sudket and Songpon are in action, against Germans Johannes Schoettler and Tim Dettmann in the men's doubles qualifying round. Main rounds will commence from tomorrow. The tournament is one of 12 events offering qualifying points for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
